Tips for a Healthy Relationship

(Uses of "he" and "she" are arbitrary: these tips apply to everyone!)

Forgive him or forgive her when he or she messes up.

Listen to her problems. Listen to his problems.

Ask him about his day and be interested in what he tells you.

Ask her about her day and be interested in what she tells you.

Play together often.

Encourage him in whatever he does--sports, work, whatever.

Make an effort to get to know (and if you can, love) his or her family.

Trust him - Trust her (and act like it besides just saying it)

Kiss in silly ways, do other silly things like tickling, and making up your own private jokes...Play is a vital part of a healthy relationship (It's so important, Todd and I vowed "To play with you as much as I can" in our wedding vows)

Remember why you fell in love.

Let him have his space. Let him have some time of her own.

Create a special signal to say "I love you" when in public (we have a special whistle which says, "Honey, I love you" and also "Could you come here?" if we're apart)

Remember all the dates she thinks are important (the day you met, anniversaries, etc.)

Avoid lying and deception at all costs: if her dress is unflattering, say so in as kind a way as possible. If you didn't make that call your hunny asked you to, don't hide it...etc.

Make sure they are confident in you--let them know you'll always be there for him.

Watch what you say to one another: familiarity sometimes breeds contempt, and we can't take back harsh words, quickly spoken.

Don't nag.

Show your love for each other in many ways: kiss, hug, smile, tickle, say it out loud.

Accept him for who he is. Accept her for who she is.

Kiss at least once a day. Hug at least once a day.
